The American alligator is native to the southern United States. This reptile’s breeding season generally coincides with the thunderstorms that mark late spring and early summer. The female lays between 20 and 70 eggs on a nest made of plant detritus, and after 65 to 70 days of incubation, the young alligators emerge from their eggs with the help of their mother.
