We are very proud to announce the birth of a little Grevy’s Zebra (Equus grevyi), born as part of the Ex situ Breeding Program (EEP).
It is the largest and most threatened of the three zebra species. Currently classified as endangered, there are fewer than 2,000 individuals left in the wild.
Recognisable by its white belly and thin, tight stripes, the Grevy’s Zebra is unfortunately hunted for its fur and meat. This birth is, therefore, a true glimmer of hope for the future of this species.
The little female zebra, named Xmas, was born on December 24, 2024. She grew up under the supervision of her mother and the rest of the herd away from the public, in a 10-hectare area around the Chimpanzee island.
